Comparison of wall-fire behavior with and without a ceiling

Abstract: This paper demonslrales lhal Ihe eflfecls of Ihe ceiling on ihe progress of a wall fire are quite significanl, and lhal a projecl to quantify and model Ihe effecls of a ceiling on Ihe progress of a wall fire is indeed needed. Experimenlal resulls from Ihe open literalure, as well as previously-unpublished experimenlal resulls oblained al NIST, are used. The wall-fire model SPREAD and Ihe room-fire model FIRST are used seriatim to show lhal some of Ihese effecls can now be calculaled.
