Abstract:A protonation/deprotonation mechanism has been established for the interpretation of ions in MALDI. We show herein that negative ions can be generated in different ways. Molecules with different electron affinities have been spotted on surfaces of TiO 2 , ZnO, and a stainless steel plate for the investigation of electron capture dissociation in comparison with photo-or thermal-induced deprotonation upon irradiation of the third harmonic of Nd 3+ :YAG (355 nm) laser pulses. Detection of C60 •− and Fe (II) (porp… Show more
“…Yin, Li et al characterized how high pressure in the source can supercharge native-like intact protein complexes in nanoelectrospray . Zhong et al studied the mechanism for the formation of negative ions during the matrix assisted laser desorption ionization (MALDI) process . Xiao, Guo et al used α-cyano-4-hydroxycinnamic acid as a reactive matrix for analysis of glutathione using MALDI MS, and the sensitivity was improved to 200 pmol/μL as the limit of detection …”

“…As reported previously, in the ionization step, excited electrons in nanostructures are main subjects which are produced by the laser energy. 29 By transferring these electrons to the analytes, neutral molecules can be changed into ions. Thus, the electron transfer mechanism is operative in the ionization process.…”

The surface morphology of silicon nanostructure plays a crucial role in laser desorption/ionization (LDI) process. To learn the correlation between the surface morphology and LDI performance is the foundation for...
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
