Competition and Cooperation Relationships of Multi-category Ports Based on the Improved L-V Model

Abstract: The improved Lotka-Volterra model for the multi-goods of the multi-ports is proposed based on the competition of kinds of ecological populations in nature. Based on the analysis of the current throughput, annual average growth rate, potential throughput growth space, and the impacts of other port cargo throughput, the model establishes a competition coefficient matrix to determine the competitive cooperation model between different ports. The model is used to analyze the competition and cooperation relationshi… Show more

“…Population grows in a certain environment and it has no sudden change under influence of the surrounding luxuriant elements in a short period of time. 12,23 Container terminals are operated by different processes and equipment, such as some terminals equipped with the automated yard gear and process in a vertical layout, and others are under a manual operation by truck in a horizontal terminal. Due to the limited resources of the hinterland, the terminal throughput is different from each other's.…”

“…24 On the other hand, due to the proximity of geographical location and the similarity of the cargo structure, different terminals in the same port may cooperate and win symbiosis with each other. Considering that multiple container terminals and species are competing and cooperating in the same port area, the multiple dimensions of Lotka-Volterra model can be used to characterize multiple population dynamics plus the terms accounting for the interactions with other species, 11,12…”
