Complex thrusting at Uniondale, eastern sector of the Cape Fold Belt, Republic of South Africa: structural evidence for the need to revise the lithostratigraphy
“…An en echelon set of faults and folds suggests left-lateral displacement. On outcrop scale, the anticline is intensely structured by north-and south-verging thrusts, with steepest dips in the central zone, and local fault-bounded intersecting conjugate fault sets (hourglass structures) (Booth and Shone, 1999). We interpret this structural complex as a transpressional flower structure.…”

“…The wavelength of the folds is longer on the central south (about 30 km) and drastically shortens to the east (about 1 km). According to Booth and Shone (1999), the rocks of the Cape Supergroup are generally folded into anticlines and synclines with an average wavelength of 6 km. Thus the folds in most of the study area are fairly open.…”
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
