Complexation of Oligo- and Polynucleotides with Methoxyphenyl-Functionalized Imidazolium Surfactants

Abstract: Interaction between cationic surfactants and nucleic acids attracts much attention due to the possibility of using such systems for gene delivery. Herein, the lipoplexes based on cationic surfactants with imidazolium head group bearing methoxyphenyl fragment (MPI-n, n = 10, 12, 14, 16) and nucleic acids (oligonucleotide and plasmid DNA) were explored. The complex formation was confirmed by dynamic/electrophoretic light scattering, transmission electron microscopy, fluorescence spectroscopy, circular dichroism,… Show more

“…All chitosome samples were diluted to 1 mM before measurements. The D h and ζ were accomplished according to the Stokes-Einstein [57] and Helmholtz Smoluchowski [56,58] equations, respectively. The PdI was calculated with a second-order cumulant analysis of the correlation functions.…”

“…Measurements were taken in triplicate at 25 °C using a disposable folded capillary cell. D h and ζ were obtained using Stokes–Einstein and Helmholtz–Smoluchowski equations, respectively [ 50 ]. PdI was calculated using cumulative second-order correlation function analysis.…”

“…Calculation of the liposome concentration that causes growth inhibition of 50% of cells (IC 50 ) was made using MLA-"Quest Graph™ IC 50 Calculator" (AAT Bioquest, Inc., Pleasanton, CA, USA) [91]. A more detailed description of the experiment is published in [92]. Experiments for all compounds were carried out in triplicate.…”
