Abstract: Background and objective: The WHO launched the "Safe Surgery Saves Lives" campaign in 2008 to improve patient safety during surgery. The campaign includes the use of the WHO Surgical Safety Checklist, which has been proven effective in reducing complications and mortality rates in several studies.
