Component‐resolved diagnosis of house‐dust mite allergy with purified natural and recombinant mite allergens

Abstract: Diagnostic tests containing the major mite allergens (i.e. Der p 1, Der p 2) and highly cross-reactive mite allergens (e.g. Der p 10) may improve the diagnostic selection of patients for immunotherapy with Der p extracts. These tests may also be used for the immunological monitoring of patients undergoing immunotherapy.

“…However, HDM extracts are variable in content of allergens,12, 13 and stability is limited 14. Given the fact that sensitization to Der p1 and 2 identifies more than 95% of HDM‐allergic individuals9, 13 and their causal role in early sensitization,10 SIT with purified Der p1 and 2 might be a more attractive therapeutic approach compared to the use of HDM extracts.…”

“…With the increasing availability of new component-resolved forms of allergy diagnosis, correct diagnosis of the disease-causing allergens becomes easier and should facilitate the accurate prescription of immunotherapy [60][61][62][63]. Diagnostic tests based on the major allergens of the most common allergen sources are now available, but treatment is still based on allergen extracts.…”

“…House dust mites are more common in dust of mattresses and bedroom floors than in dust from the other areas of the house (Maunsell et al, 1968;Van Bronswijk, 1973). The two pyroglyphid mites are important sources of allergens that cause respiratory allergies including asthma worldwide inside homes in humid areas (Hallas, 1991;Arlian et al, 1992;Colloff et al, 1992;Solarz, 2001a, b;Sharma et al, 2011;Pittner et al, 2004). The two pyroglyphid mites are also identified as etiologic agent of sensitization and asthma-triggering in children (Lau et al, 1989;Arshad and Hide, 1992).…”
