Composite action of the track slab and the self-compacting concrete filling layer subjected to train-induced fatigue load: An experimental investigation

Abstract: To investigate the composite performance of the track slab and the self-compacting concrete filling layer in the China Railway Track System III slab track structure, six segmental specimens comprising either one or a pair of sleepers were fabricated by dividing a full-scale slab track structure. Fatigue tests in the transverse bending perpendicular to the rail were conducted on four slab track specimens supported on rubber plates simulating the subgrade, to a maximum of five million applied load cycles. It was… Show more

“…There are four main types of ballastless track used in China 2 : the China Railway Track System (CRTS) I, II, and III slab track, and the double block (DB) ballastless track. The cement asphalt (CA) mortars 3 in CRTS I and II slab track, which are easily damaged, are replaced by the self-compacting concrete in CRTS III slab track 4 to reduce the maintenance work effectively. Since 2010, many high-speed railways in China have adopted the CRTS III slab track due to its high performance.…”

“…Track concrete, as the main load-bearing structural material, is also widely used in track traffic [1][2][3][4][5][6]. By virtue of its supporting, waterproof, anti-corrosion and other functions, it is widely used in structures such as shield segments, secondary lining of tunnels and main body of stations [7][8][9][10][11].…”

“…With this background, the China railway track system (CRTS) III slab track was researched and developed by China to overcome the shortcomings of the CRTS I slab track [2], CRTS II slab track [3], and the double-block ballastless track [4]. The CRTS III slab track replaces the easily damaged CA mortar in the CRTS I and II slab tracks [5,6] with self-compacting concrete as a filling layer [7]. The CRTS III slab track has been widely used in high-speed railway lines in China since 2010 due to its high performance.…”
