Composite assessment of power Doppler ultrasonography and MRI in rheumatoid arthritis: a pilot study of predictive value in radiographic progression after one year

Abstract: Composite assessment of PDUS and MRI may have a stronger predictive value in radiographic progression than PDUS or MRI alone in RA. Advances in knowledge: Composite assessment of PDUS and MRI may be an effective predictor of structural damage in RA.

“…Moreover, the range of interobserver reliability assessed with ICCs depended on the variation among study samples . Although US and MRI assessments of synovitis are more sensitive than clinical examination in the detection of inflammation, they are time‐consuming and have definite limitations in systemic joint evaluation . On the contrary, joint counts on PET evaluation are a reproducible method for assessing synovial inflammation, with excellent reliability between readers.…”

“…Although imaging modalities such as ultrasound (US) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are more sensitive than clinical assessment for detecting joint in ammation [5][6][7], it is di cult to assess systemic joint status in patients with RA with these tools [8][9][10][11]. Another limitation is the time-consuming nature of these imaging procedures.…”
