Composition of nanoclay supported silver nanoparticles in furtherance of mitigating cytotoxicity and genotoxicity

Abstract: Silver nanoparticle (Ag-NP) is well known for its high antibacterial efficacy. However, its toxicity toward mammalian cells is still a concern in clinical applications. The aim of our study was to evaluate the composition effects of Ag-NP supported by silicate nanoplatelet (NSP) with respect to the cytotoxicity and genotoxicity, and was in reference to the poly (styrene-co-maleic anhydride)-supported Ag-NP (Ag-NP/SMA). The NSP at the geometric dimension of averaged 80 x 80 x 1 nm3 was prepared from the exfolia… Show more

“…Therefore, we assessed the effect of AuAgNPs, AgNPs and the effect of visible light irradiation of NPs on viability of primary human fibroblasts that, for the tested concentrations, did not show any impact to cell viability ( Supplementary Figure 3 ). These observations are in line with data in the literature on the toxicity of noble metal nanoparticles on mammal cells ( Conde et al, 2014 ; Tiedemann et al, 2014 ; Taylor et al, 2015 ; Alhmoud et al, 2017 ; Fernandes et al, 2020 ; Chang et al, 2021 ).…”

“…The micronucleus test, based on blocking cytokinesis, reveals the presence of fragmented genetic material in cells, which tends to cluster in small portions at the margin of the cell nucleus, proving the occurrence of mutagenesis. This test can be used by itself or in association with other tests, such as the comet assay [76,77].…”
