“…The youngest phase (95-83 Ma) is clearly related to the CLIP main pulse induced by the Gal apagos hotspot (Flores, 2009;Hauff et al, 2000;Hoernle et al, 2004;Nerlich et al, 2014;Sinton et al, 1997;Whattam, Gazel, Yi, & Denyer, 2016). At this time, it is not clear whether the plateau basalts exposed on the Islas Murci elago (109-113 Ma; Hauff et al, 2000;Escuder-Viruete et al, 2015;Madrigal et al, 2016; Figure 3b, Data S1) are related to the Nicoya Complex. The northern limit of the Nicoya Complex is not observed.…”

“…It lies somewhere between the Nicoya and Santa Elena peninsulas (Figure 3b), which is also suggested by a sharp E-W boundary on the magnetic anomalies maps of the area (Barckhausen & Ranero, 2003). “…The Caribbean plate is a combination of oceanic fragments divided into four oceanic plateau provinces: (1) the Late Triassic to Late Cretaceous Siuna Terrane of oceanic crust affinity (Venable, 1994), also known as the Mesquito Composite Oceanic Terranes (MCOT; Baumgartner et al, 2008); (2) the Early Cretaceous accreted intra-oceanic arc and seamount Santa Elena and Nicoya Complexes (Baumgartner & Denyer, 2006;Escuder-Viruete et al, 2015;Hauff et al, 2000); (3) the Early Cretaceous igneous plateau Manzanillo Terrane (Andjić et al, 2018); and (4) the Late Cretaceous Caribbean Large Igneous Province (Hoernle et al, 2004). Of these, the terrane most related to the Chortís block is the Siuna Terrane-MCOT that probably collided along the southern part of the Chortís block in the Late Cretaceous (Figure 1; Baumgartner et al, 2008;Rogers, Mann, Emmet, & Venable, 2007;Sanchez et al, 2016).…”
