Compositional resource theories of coherence

Abstract: Quantum coherence is one of the most important resources in quantum information theory. Indeed, preventing the loss of coherence is one of the most important technical challenges obstructing the development of large-scale quantum computers. Recently, there has been substantial progress in developing mathematical resource theories of coherence, paving the way towards its quantification and control. To date however, these resource theories have only been mathematically formalised within the realms of convex-geom… Show more

“…This compositional viewpoint also has advantages in standard quantum information, see for example Ref. [33]. In this manner the circuit framework is different to the convex sets framework, an alternatively approach to generalised probabilistic theories, which was presented in [6,2]-although both are similar in spirit.…”

“…The circuit framework takes inspiration from the categorical approach to quantum theory, introduced by Abramsky and Coecke [31,32], in that it heavily emphasises compositionality. This compositional viewpoint also has advantages in standard quantum information, see for example reference [33]. In this manner the circuit framework is different to the convex sets framework, an alternatively approach to generalised probabilistic theories, which was presented in [2,6]-although both are similar in spirit.…”
