“…In recent years, some researchers have mainly focused on single factor evaluations of carrying capacity or regional carrying capacity analyses [57][58][59] but have not considered the comprehensive capacity of resources and the environment and have not provided useful support for spatial planning work. Moreover, due to the obvious differentiation of resources in China's national territory, the different regions used as evaluation units to explore the spatial differences of RECC and then guide the layout of land space and economic development are the focus of current spatial planning research [60].…”

“…In order to study the WRCC of a specific region in the future, evaluation studies can be combined with predictive research. For example, Yang et al predicted the WRCC of Xi'an in 2020 [31]. Usually, the prediction research needs to set up multiple scenarios and obtain the prediction results of WRCC and then get the regulation programs.…”

“…The authors of [7] also constructed an urban ecological capacity capability framework to evaluate the relationship between ecological carrying capacity and economic development in Beijing during the period from 1996 to 2012 and revealed that both population and economic levels had exceeded the city's ecological carrying capacity. A similar situation applies to Xi'an; under current growth patterns, resource exploration cannot sustain a water resource carrying capacity [12], and therefore, an environmentally friendly economic growth pattern and substantial investment in environmental protection are necessary. Thus, generally speaking, research on carrying capacities globally and within China take one of two approaches: studying the carrying capacity of a single factor based on the shortage of, for example, land, water, or key mineral resources, to determine resource carrying capacity, environmental carrying capacity, or population carrying capacity; or taking urban resources, environmental conditions, and other factors as the objects of research, and exploring the carrying capacity of multiple factors closely related to economic and social activities, i.e., comprehensive carrying capacity, such as regional carrying capacity, ecological carrying capacity, or UCC.…”

“…In essence, the method provides a deeper description of the concept's overall uncertainty and can be used to minimize the uncertainty in an evaluation's analysis, thus making the evaluation more objective. Following [3,12], this paper uses the improved entropy method to measure the comprehensive carrying capacity of the 26 cities in the YRD, using Matlab 2016 b software.…”
