Comprehensive performance analysis of model predictive current control based on-grid photovoltaic inverters

Abstract: A considerable amount of energy is lost by utilizing the traditional pulse width modulation (PWM) based inverters in an on-grid PV system. Therefore, a model predictive current control (MPCC) based control strategy is proposed in this research work. The controller works based on a predefined cost function. The cost function includes deviation of current from its reference and a switching frequency term to reduce the average switching frequency. All the possible control actions i.e. inverter switching states ar… Show more

“…Electrical drive and power converter predictive control is a serious move towards a new approach that will improve the reliability of alternative energy control and management systems [10], [11]. Through the use of switching mode operation, in which power semiconductor devices are operated in ON / OFF mode, the key characteristics of modern power electronic converters (fast operation and high power densities, high performance, reduced weight and size) are obtained [3], [6], [13]. Based on an accurate agreement that clarifies the various safety standards that must be followed during the connection, concluded between the consumer and the utility company, the PV system is connected.…”

“…In an on-grid photovoltaic (PV) system, the inverter is considered the most vital component of the system. An apposite inverter controlling is necessary for achieving moderate power loss, total harmonic distortion (THD), and the safety and reliability of the grid [1,2]. Various types of control mechanisms, including linear (proportional-integral (PI) [3,4], proportional-resonant (PR) [5], repetitive [6], deadbeat control [7], etc.)…”
