“…A further finding was that a general injury prevention program evaluated in the trial by van Beijsterveldt et al [54], which included a range of exercises in the form of a warm-up, did not show statistically significant effects on injury incidence over a season. Their finding of no effect on overall injury incidence was similar to the findings of trials using the same program, 'The 11' or the modified version 'The 11+' in adolescent female football players [76,77].…”

“…The majority of the post intervention intra-group results for the EG showed a tendency to rise, however, only one of them (IL) presented a significant statistic differences of 46% compared to the CG which only increased to 15%, which could be associated with the stability of the dynamic chain (provided by the training program) which could be associated with the requirements for performing this motor movement 10,19 . The post intervention inter-group results suggest that the EG had significantly improved scores in the IL, test with a score of p 0.001, compared to the CG which didn't produce any significant scores in any of its variables.…”

“…One of these programs which is renowned for its effectiveness at preventing injury is the FIFA 11+ 9 . Those football teams that use the program generally reduce the risk of injury by 30% to 70% compared to those that do not use it 10,11 , when applied this program also significantly improves the players' functional capacity in neuromuscular control, strength, static/dynamic balance and agility skills over an 8 week period 12 . There are some tools available which enable the assessment of movements such as the Functional Movement Screen (FMS) TM 13,14 .…”

“…In addition to conventional handball training during this period, IG performed the FIFA11+ program twice a week with mean of 40 minutes each session, based on the study by Soligard et al 8 . The main differences between training sessions are that the FIFA11+ program presents a greater focus on injury prevention, especially by approaching the central stabilizing musculature through boards, and by strengthening hamstring muscles, whereas conventional handball training addresses the specific fundamentals of the sport, such as passes and pitches in order to improve sporting performance.…”

“…Thus, more and more research is being conducted on injury prevention programs in athletes, such as "FIFA 11+", initially developed to reduce injuries in soccer players. This program consists of a physical exercise-based training that focuses on central stabilizing muscle strength (CORE), neuromuscular control and balance, eccentric training of the thigh muscles, plyometry and agility 8 .…”
