Compression Properties of Fibers and Polymer Composites

Abstract: The factors controlling the compressive strength and modulus are reviewed. These are the initial straightness of the fibers in the laminate, the compressive strength of the fibers, and the matrix compression properties (yield strength, modulus, etc.). The most recent and reliable compression testing methods are described and the sources of compressive strength and stiffness are discussed. The compressive strengths and stiffnesses of carbon, glass, and aramid laminates are then summarized.
