Compressive Behavior of FRP Grid-Reinforced UHPC Tubular Columns

Abstract: In this study, a novel form of tubular columns that is made of ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC) internally reinforced with fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) grid (herein referred to as FRP grid-UHPCtubular column) was developed. The axial compression test results of FRP grid-UHPC tubular columns with and without in-filled concrete are presented and discussed. Effects of the number of the FRP grid-reinforcing cages, the presence of in-filled concrete, and the presence of external FRP confinement were investi… Show more

“…Advanced material solutions were developed for this goal, including fiber-reinforced polymers (FRPs) and composite materials for the blast protection of structural elements [69][70][71], retrofitting materials for enhanced blast performance [72] and high energy-absorbing materials [73]. Other advanced materials can be considered, including ultra-high-performance concrete under impact loading [74][75][76], hybrid-reinforced concrete [77] and reinforced concrete beams strengthened with carbon fiber-reinforced polymer [78]. The impact performance of precast segmental columns [79][80][81] and beams [82] was under extensive research, also at the experimental level [83][84][85].…”

“…al. [62] [63], one was internally reinforced with an FRP grid, and the other was internally reinforced with novel FRP micro-bars. Based on the above literature review, it can be seen that, from the perspective of complementary advantages, the combination of FRP, ECC, and UHPC to form a new lightweight, high-strength, and high-durability composite structure has broad application prospects.…”

“…UHPC has the characteristics of high strength, high toughness, high ductility [ 3 ], crack resistance [ 4 ], impact resistance [ 5 ], and durability [ 6 ]. Components built with this material have lightweight, strong spanning ability [ 7 , 8 ] and have become a new type of building material with application prospects [ 9 ]. However, UHPC has a very low water–cement ratio.…”
