Compressive performance of AFRP reinforced laminated bamboo stub columns

Abstract: Engineered bamboo construction can be affected by natural defects, insects, corrosion, etc., which will result in damaging the mechanical properties of structural components. However, traditional reinforcement methods such as setting steel supports and increasing the cross-sectional area of components may cost a lot and cause a negative influence on the appearance of building. Many engineering practices and research works show that applying FRP (Fiber Reinforced Polymer/Fiber) sheet is an economical and effici… Show more

“…With the invention of bamboo composites, such as laminated bamboo lumber [82][83][84][85][86][87], glubam [88][89][90][91][92], parallel strand bamboo [93][94][95][96][97], and their combinations with AFRP, CFRP [98,99], and other materials, the possibility of using bamboo as reinforcement for concrete is significantly expanding. Multiple studies have been done on new types of bamboo-based and concrete composites, such as engineered bamboo-concrete sandwich panels, bamboo particle concrete, bamboo fibre concrete, bamboo tube grid concrete panels, etc., showing wide possibilities of utilization of bamboo variations in composites with concrete [100,101].…”

“…Aromatic polyamide fiber, abbreviated as aramid fiber (PPTA), is the second-generation high-performance reinforcement fiber following carbon fiber [1][2][3]. As one of the three major high-performance fibers in the world, aramid fiber possesses superior properties, such as low density, high tensile strength, high modulus, excellent thermal stability, abrasion resistance, chemical corrosion resistance, and outstanding ballistic performance [4][5][6][7]. Consequently, it is widely used in the manufacturing of advanced composite materials for aerospace, civil engineering, armored protection, and other fields [8][9][10][11][12][13].…”

“…Few studies evaluated FRP reinforced short LBL columns. Hong [63], Wang [64] and Li [65] carried out axial compression experiments on FRP reinforced short LBL columns, studied the ultimate strength of FRP reinforced short LBL columns, but did not propose a universal model of stress-strain model. Herein, the effect of BFRP on the axial compressive performance of BFRP reinforced short LBL columns was investigated.…”
