Show more

“…Compounds such as dimethyl disulfide, limonene, (E)-2-hexenal and hexanal found in this work present a repellent, toxic and in some cases an attractant effect on some pests (Cantúa et al 2019) so they have a role in plant protection (Ángeles et al 2012;Scala et al 2013;Cantúa et al 2019).…”

“…Plants constitutively emit VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) that herbivores exploit for host location. Under conditions of herbivore attack, plants emit a much greater diversity and quantity of VOCs, which consist of specific and detectable signals for a wide range of natural enemies to locate their host/prey (Turlings and Matthias 2018;Cantúa et al 2019). Some management strategies have been proposed by manipulating defenses or emitting volatiles from plants directly targeting the herbivore, such as the use of volatile repellents to stop colonization or attract them to specific sites for trapping or removal.…”

“…In this study, the following compounds were identified in the habitat: mainly saturated hydrocarbons, aldehydes, and alcohols, and, in a lower proportion, esters, ethers, ketones, terpenes, aromatic compounds, amines, and phenols. Gordon (2021), Jaffé (2004), Kaspari (2003), and other authors have previously established that the following pheromones regulate most of the life of ants: acetates, aldehydes, alcohols, alkanes, and ketones (Cantúa-Ayala et al, 2019;Cruz-Labana et al, 2023). Paterson and Adams (2022) have determined that alkanes are the main components of the tracking, warning, and sexual pheromones of family Formicidae.…”
