Computation of Ecological Properties, Flammability Properties and Thermodynamic Properties of Sustainable Refrigerant Dimethylether (RE170) Using Martin Hou Equation of State (MHEOS)

Abstract: The objective of present work is to investigate the thermodynamic properties, ecological properties and flammability properties of a refrigerant Dimethylether (RE170). Ecological properties such as ozone depletion potential (ODP) and global warming potential (GWP) were reported and validated with literature. Flammability properties such as upper flammability limit (UFL), lower flammability limit (LFL) and refrigerant flammability (RF) number were reported and validated with literature. Martin-Hou equation of s… Show more

“…In refrigeration and air conditioning sector, the use of environmentally friendly refrigerants is one action to address these issues [1]. DME (Dimethyl Ether) or RE170 with chemical formula of CH3OCH3 can be used as a refrigerant that has a very low global warming potential (GWP) and a zero-ozone depleting potential (ODP) [2]. The normal boiling point of this compound is -24.8°C with a critical temperature and pressure of 400.4 K and 5.336 MPa, and respectively.…”

“…In 1959, Martin and co‐workers achieved a further improvement on the accuracy of the 55 M–H EOS in higher densities region 16 . The 55 M–H EOS has been applied to many various systems, especially for refrigeration technology design, 17–22 no matter mixture system or pure substance, but the applications of the 55 M–H EOS were still limited to the gaseous phase. However, the modern industrial design demands that EOS not only be accurate in the gaseous phase but also be applicable to the liquid phase.…”
