The integration of weapons into today's advanced military aircraft is a difficult, time-consuming, and expensive process. Traditionally, weapons integration testing has relied primarily on flight testing. Recent advances in computational fluid dynamics and the development of an integrated methodology using CFD, wind tunnel tests, and flight tests signifies a new opportunity to dramatically impact the time, cost, and accuracy of weapons delivery. In a joint program between the USAF SEEK EAGLE Office and the Arnold Engineering Development Center, the tools required for this integrated methodology have been successfuliy developed and validated for single event weapons. Recent comparisons have been made with flight tests to verify the effectweness of the integrated methodology. The potential for saving the time and cost of weapon system development is demonstrated.
