Computer-Aided Engineering Environment for Designing Tailored Forming Components

Abstract: The use of multi-material forming components makes it possible to produce components adapted to the respective requirements, which have advantages over mono-material components. The necessary consideration of an additional material increases the possible degrees of freedom in product and manufacturing process development. As a result, development becomes more complex and special expert knowledge is required. To counteract this, computer-aided engineering environments with knowledge-based tools are increasingly… Show more

“…In algorithmic modeling, the focus is on automating the design process rather than pre-formulated solutions [4,23]. Algorithms are used to extract product properties from requirements and build product design rules, also taking into account external data or numerical simulations [24][25][26]. Therefore, a parametric product master model is unnecessary, as this approach aims to generate an individual product for each set of customer requirements.…”

“…Therefore, in addition to empirical investigations, research is increasingly using validated simulation models to develop knowledge about the tailored forming process chain. This knowledge is fed back into product development in the form of knowledge-based methods and tools to support the manufacturing-oriented design of tailored forming components and to make the complex technology applicable for design engineers [18].…”

“…Another way of implicitly considering data and context uncertainties is the creation of design automation systems. Here, the design process of a component is completely formalized and implemented into a computer aided engineering environment (Brockmöller et al, 2020;Amadori et al, 2012;La Rocca & van Tooren, 2010). Variations of requirements can be directly computed into product variants, allowing to analyze sensitivities of changes and find clusters of solutions for requirement sets (Siqueira et al, 2019;Schätz et al, 2010).…”
