Computing scattering cross sections for spherically symmetric potentials
Anil Khachi
Abstract:Editor's Note: This Note shows how Scilab, a free software package, can be used to find phase shifts within the Variable Phase Approach (VPA) to scattering, allowing the scattering cross sections to be calculated. Students may find the VPA approach to be conceptually appealing, as it shows how the phase builds up due to the scattering potential.

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
