“…The pathogenesis of the pancreatic and testicular findings was not apparent in histological sections. Because M. canis spends a considerable portion of the year in the historically polluted Long Island Sound (Greig & Wenzloff 1977; Peven, Uhler, Hillman & Steinhause 1996) selective toxicity targeting pancreatic and testicular epithelia could be involved. In all mature male M. canis examined, spermatogenesis in the testes appeared to progress from the free margin of the organ towards the epididymial margin, with only the latter region containing seminiferous tubules with mature spermatozoa adjacent to tubules with degenerating epithelium.…”
