Concept Maps as a Tool for Supporting Knowledge Management in Collaborative Research Projects

Abstract: The successful writing and management of collaborative research projects requires a common understanding of the project's objectives by all partners involved. It also requires a clear vision of the project inputs and outputs. This paper presents two case-studies where concept maps were used as a knowledge management tool in order to support both project lifecycle management and project proposal writing. Concept maps were drawn in both cases in order to describe the main activities executed in the project work … Show more

“…Apart from mind maps, concept maps, knowledge maps, and argument maps also feature in the subject literature (Dang et al, 2011;Engelmann and Hesse, 2010;Loss, 2009;Martin and Rice, 2009;Pinto, Douchet, Fernandez-Ramos, 2010;Taylor and Littleton-Kearney, 2011;Tramullas, Sanchez-Casabon and Garrido-Picazo, 2009).

“…The field of knowledge management attracts researchers from diverse disciplines with different perspectives, theories, and interest in the field. Knowledge management in manufacturing and collaborative organisations also has been addressed in previous research, for example in [8], [27], [28], and [29]. At least two perspectives on KMS have to be differentiated:…”
