Conception of Learning Physics and Self-Efficacy Among Indonesian University Students

Abstract: This research aimed to explore the correlation between Indonesian University students’ conception of learning physics and their physics’ self-efficacy. A total of 279 students who were majoring in physics education participated in this research and were invited to complete two instruments: the conception of learning physics (CLP) and the physics learning’ self-efficacy (PLSE). Both of the questionnaires, which were modified from [Lin, Liang, & Tsai (2015a) and Lin, Liang, & Tsai (2015b)]’ instruments, … Show more

“…An effective learning process can be achieved when the process is able to help students understand a concept and achieve learning outcomes very well Suprapto et al, 2017). According to Kaniawati (2017), students can be considered understand a Physics concept when they are able to explain the concept clearly based on their knowledge.…”

“…In Asian contexts, two recent studies on collective self-efficacy among Asian American college students have been conducted by (Klassen & Chiu, 2010) together with (Kim & Omizo, 2005). Ultimately, (Suprapto, Chang, & Ku, 2017) and (Utami, 2017) conducted self-efficacy studies focusing on Physics learning processes and Entrepreneurial education. Furthermore, (Lomi & Mbato, 2019) mentioned that EFL learners urgently require continuous moral supports from their teachers to increase their volition and motivation in public speaking class.…”

“…Carrying out a task successfully can increase self-efficacy while failure to perform a task successfully lowers it (Bailey et al, 2017). Physics Self-Efficacy and Identity Survey by Kost-Smith (2011), Sources of Self-Efficacy in Science-Physics by Fencl and Scheel (2005), and Physics Learning Self-Efficacy by Suprapto et al (2017) have been used to measure self-efficacy among students in physics.…”

“…Self-Efficacy Scale (SES) was the instrument for the study. SES was adapted from Suprapto et al (2017) which was designed to measure Indonesian University Students' physics learning self-efficacy. The instrument originally was presented with bipolar strongly agree to strongly disagree statements in a five-point Likert scale.…”
