“…Based on the convergence of the AMPD and the categories reported in this special issue, we fully expect outcome and treatment data to support treatment efficacy of specialized treatment for AMPD-defined individuals, as they did for the categories. Indeed, explicit reorientation toward AMPD in treatment manuals has already begun (Caligor et al, 2018; Choi-Kain & Sharp, 2022; Sauer-Zavala et al, 2022; Sharp & Bevington, 2022). Empirical verification of treatment efficacy and positive prospective patient outcomes and adjustment of treatment manuals based on AMPD language will be significantly accelerated with the legitimization of the AMPD in Section II.…”

“…Existing interventions for BPD tend to be focused on a single Criterion B dimension (for a review, see Sauer-Zavala, Southward, Hood, et al, 2022). For example, dialectical behavior therapy (DBT; Linehan, 1993) is designed to target emotional difficulties, which are analogous to the AMPD dimension of negative affectivity.…”

“…It is, therefore, especially noteworthy then that the two largest effects in the meta‐analysis comparing intervention to control groups were found by the two studies that included participants with BPD‐related symptomatology but not a diagnosis of BPD (S. L. Johnson et al, 2020; Peros, 2022). While traditionally treatment for BPD/EUPD often is very intensive, complex, and long‐term (Sauer‐Zavala et al, 2022) newer options including the use of digital technology may hence lend themselves more naturally to individuals with fewer or subthreshold BPD/EUPD symptomatology. Therefore, it will be crucial for future research to investigate the use of digital interventions across different BPD/EUPD features, including a focus on subthreshold symptomatology.…”
