“…Recognising that technology adaptation processes can be subtle (DeSanctis & Poole, 1994) and that participants might not be able to specify or explain them, the method of the interpretive case study (Pan & Tan, 2011;Walsham, 1995) is considered appropriate for this research as this approach is well-documented for investigating implied meanings embedded within natural settings (Davidson & Chismar, 2007;Hsu, Huang, & Galliers, 2014;Pan & Tan, 2011). As aforementioned, the empirical setting of this study involved 2 companies, EAclient and EAsupplier, across 2 different countries in East Asia.…”

“…A number of distinct interactional patterns can be distinguished in relational framing. One interactional pattern highlights the relational framing between different actors, for instance, between organizations [4,22]; occupational groups or departments in organizations [20,29,35,52]; designers and users [2]; or organizational members situated in different cultural contexts [38]. Such relational framing focuses on resolving differences in meanings held by diverse actors of a particular technology, referred to as frame incongruences [55].…”

“…Actors can engage in political framing in different ways. On the one hand, political framing can drive actors to mobilize support amongst "bystanders" or advocates of a similar view [2] to influence change in others' frames in some particular direction [4,22]. This approach represents an attempt to consolidate power [4].…”

“…The paper contributes to theory and practice in three different ways. First, the paper theoretically contributes to the ongoing debate of theorizing information technonolgy (IT) (Orlikowski and Iacono, 2001;Akhlaghpour et al, 2013;Hsu et al, 2014;Majchrzak et al, 2016) by providing an in-depth study about BI and its definition, characteristics, and conceptualisation. In doing so, the study follows the call and debate introduced by Orlikowski and Iacono (2001, p.130), who contends that "…quantitative or qualitative, large-scale or in-depth, experimental, survey-based, modeling, ethnographic, or case study, can advance our theoretical understandings of IT artifacts".…”
