“…4 Recently, WNV RNA was detected in sick horses (buffy coat) and in humans (cerebrospinal fluid), and the partial nucleotide sequences of the E-gene coding region were closely related to viruses of lineage 1, clade 1a. 3 This study reports the detection of WNVinfected horses with neurologic signs in Turkey, using immunohistochemistry (IHC), in situ hybridization (ISH), and ELISA techniques. A 2-month-old female Rahvan foal from the Aegean Region of Turkey was presented for postmortem evaluation in July 2011 with a 1-week history of stagnation and posterior paralysis prior to death.…”

“…36 Human cases of WNV infection were also identified in the Mesopotamia Region in 2009, Syria border of Turkey. 37 Overall, surveillance data show that few cases were reported in 2010 compared with 2011, when a total of 47 human cases of WN disease was reported in the country.…”

“…[48][49][50][51] Finally, this lineage was isolated in Turkey, specifically in Thrace, in 201234 and in central Anatolia. 36 The spatiotemporal distribution of WNV lineage 1 suggests that the virus was introduced from Africa to Europe by birds migrating through different routes (see Figure 2). In fact, microorganisms infecting birds tend to be dispersed along migration routes.…”
