Conductance Studies in Thionyl Chloride: II

Abstract

Molar conductivities in thionyl chloride at 25°C have been determined for the salts false(CH3)4normalNCl , false(C2H5)4normalNCl , false(normaln‐C4H9)4normalNCl , false(normaln‐C4H9)4NBfalse(C6H5)4 , false(C6H5)4normalAsCl , and false(C6H5)4normalAsBfalse(C6H5)4 over the concentration range of 5×10−3 normalto 5×10−5 mol dm−3 . The data are analyzed in terms of an ion pairing model, and individual ionic molar conductivities at infinite dilution are calculated from the assumption λ∞false(Ph4As+false)=λ∞false(BPh4−false) . Solubilities and thermodynamic solubility products for normalNaCl and normalKCl are estimated from conductivity data for saturated solutions.
