Conducting supramolecular nanofibers and nanorods

Abstract: Recent progress in the study of electroconducting nanomaterials such as nanofibers, nanorods and other nanostructures based on the supramolecular self-assembly of hexabenzocoronenes, oligo(thiophene)s, tetrathiafulvalenes and perylene-3,4,9,10-tetracarboxylic diimides is described in this tutorial review. Conducting nanofibers and nanorods are constructed by doping pi-donors or pi-acceptors with oxidants or reductants before/after the formation of such nanostructures; however, some nanofibers show electric con… Show more

“…[130] Furthermore, there is considerable current interest in TTF-based supramolecular chemistry, and redox-active TTF-containing oligomers, polymers, and dendrimers have been synthesized. [131] There have been only a few reports of TTF-fused macrocycles. Mono-, bis-, and tris(tetrathiafulvaleno)hexadehydro [12]annulenes 178-181 were reported by Iyoda and coworkers (Figure 44).…”

“…[40] In this context, the improvement of conductivity through intermolecular interactions of the closely assembled gelator molecules in the gel state is significant, thus providing a bulk conducting nanowire. [40][41][42] Even though such supramolecular wires offer many advantages, controlling the self-assembly process during gelation is a challenging task. Therefore, in many cases, conducting properties were investigated for both the film state and nanostructures formed from solutions of different substrates.…”

“…Recently, several TTF-py(py = pyridine) compounds have been reported, which the pyridyl group is directly attached to the TTF core without any spacer part, which could increase the electronic coupling between the TTF moiety and the pyridine group [7][8][9][10][11][12]. And our group also reported a TTF-py donor molecule, EDT-TTF-4-py, L1 (Scheme 1) could form microstructures by the coordinative self-assembly method [13].…”
