Conductive Cotton Textile from Safely Functionalized Carbon Nanotubes

Abstract: Electroconductive cotton textile has been prepared by a simple dipping-drying coating technique using safely functionalized multiwalled carbon nanotubes (f-MWCNTs). Owing to the surface functional groups, thef-MWCNTs become strongly attached with the cotton fibers forming network armors on their surfaces. As a result, the textile exhibits enhanced electrical properties with improved thermal conductivity and therefore is demonstrated as a flexible electrothermal heating element. The fabricatedf-MWCNTs/cotton te… Show more

“…Carboxylic functionalization increases the solubility of CNT in comparison to non-functionalized pristine CNT thus aiding in developing nanocomposites of high quality and distinctive optical properties [8]. Moreover, it enhances the CNT electrical conductivity and thermal stability to obtain, for example, a better conductive cotton textile [9]. Carboxylated CNT are suggested to be used in different products ranging from biomedical and therapeutic applications, gene delivery, cancer diagnosis to vaccination [10][11][12].…”

“…Here, an environmentally friendly approach to functionalizing CNTs has been described, which is developed to attach −COOH groups onto their surfaces, and carried out under a wet condition using citric acid solution in RF (13.56 MHz) oxygen plasma [48,49]. CNTs are first pretreated supersonically in ethanol.…”

“…For thermal analyses a thermogravimetric analyzer (Rigaku Thermo plus TG8120) is used, which is operated under air ambient at a heating rate of 10 K/min from room temperature to 973 K [48]. To obtain the cotton composite, f-CNTs are dispersed into water to produce stable [49]. A piece of 100% cotton (p-cotton) textile of ca.…”

“…Especially, homogeneous distribution of CNTs in the cellulose matrix has predominantly contributed to improve its characteristics. CNT forms a conducting network using its electron donating and accepting ability in the composite [6,[34][35][36]. These CNT/cellulose composite materials have some outstanding properties such as being highly strong, electrically and thermally conductive, and the usage of these materials have been widely investigated [35][36][37][38].…”
