Confirmatory Factor Analysis of the Indonesian Version of Community Assessment of Psychic Experiences

Abstract: The Community Assessment of Psychic Experiences (CAPE) is a popular self-report questionnaire that measures lifetime psychotic experiences. However, despite being popular, a consistent factorial structure across nations has not been found. Furthermore, the factorial structure of the Indonesian version has not been examined questioning the types of symptoms that can be measured. Cross-sectional community sample from Indonesia (N = 844) was used in this study. Confirmatory factor analyses results showed that the… Show more

“…Details of the participants' education and income in each country are provided in Supplementary Material B (available online). The original study included further outcome measures that are reported in previous publications based on this data set (Jaya, 2017;Jaya et al, 2018;Jaya et al, 2020;Jaya & Lincoln, 2016). We report how we determined our sample size, all data exclusions, all manipulations, and all measures in the study.…”

“…The items are answered with a Likert scale ranging from 1 to 4 for both the frequency (“never” to “nearly always”) and the distress (“not distressed” to “very distressed”) scale. The CAPE has been shown to have good psychometric properties in many languages, including Dutch, French, English, German, Indonesian, Spanish, and Swedish (Brenner et al., 2007 ; Fonseca‐Pedrero et al., 2012 ; Jaya, 2017 ; Schlier et al., 2015 ; Ziermans, 2013 ). The original factorial structure of the CAPE includes three dimensions (positive symptoms, negative symptoms, and depressive symptoms (Stefanis et al., 2002 )).…”

“…There have been multiple CAPE variants depending on the language of the translation, the validation process, the target population, and what items they included (CAPE-42 or CAPE-P15). [24][25][26]41,[54][55][56] Specifically, although there is one study that validated the K-CAPE-15, consisting only of positive items and involving only young adults for analysis, 29 the present study can be further generalized as it includes a wider range of participants and all three subdomains. K-CAPE-15 conducted face-to-face clinical interviews to evaluate the diagnostic validity and determined the cutoff values for UHR detection.…”

“…Our study is the first validation report of the K-CAPE-42 which includes reliability, factor structure, and convergent-divergent validity. There have been multiple CAPE variants depending on the language of the translation, the validation process, the target population, and what items they included (CAPE-42 or CAPE-P15) [ 24 - 26 , 41 , 54 - 56 ]. Specifically, although there is one study that validated the K-CAPE-15, consisting only of positive items and involving only young adults for analysis [ 29 ], the present study can be further generalized as it includes a wider range of participants and all three subdomains.…”
