Congenital Heart Disease in Adolescents With Gluteal Muscle Contracture

Abstract: Gluteal muscle contracture (GMC), presented with hip abduction and external rotation when crouching, is common in several ethnicities, particularly in Chinese. It remains unclear that the reasons why these children are weak and have no choice to accept repeated intramuscular injection. Here, we found some unique cases which may be useful to explain this question. We describe a series of special GMC patients, who are accompanied with congenital heart disease (CHD). These cases were first observed in preoperative… Show more

“…However, we found that most of the reports on arthroscopic resection of extra-articular osteochondroma are case reports, and there are few comparatively systematic follow-up and analysis studies, let alone multi-dimensional functional evaluation on patients. The author's department focuses on sports medicine clinical and scientific research and has tried the application of arthroscopy in extra-articular osteochondroma for years [10,29]. Our surgical approach is to create two arthroscopic portals with an interval of 3 cm directly on the surface of the tumor, without entering the joint, avoiding damaging important structures.…”

“…These involved muscles may be found with muscle fibers degeneration and necrosis, fibrous connective tissue proliferation, and myofascial and fascia hypertrophy, leading to a sequence of secondary pathological changes, such as the hip muscles out-of-balance, which may cause abduction and external rotation deformities of the hip joint, pelvic tilt, and acetabular dysplasia. [1,7] …”

“…According to previous studies, GMC mostly occurs in the patients with a history of repeated intramuscular injection in the period of infant and preschool age [3], with an incidence rate of 0.7-10.1% [4][5][6]. Notably, patients with GMC are more common in China compared with other countries [7]. After muscles of buttock contracture, the elasticity and length of the muscle will decrease to form ber contracture band.…”
