Abstract:The esophagus of a 30-hour-old girl was completely obstructed by an intraluminal mucosal web. This rare esophageal anomaly was associated with a fistula between the trachea and the distal esophagus beyond the site of obstruction. Because of the radiographic findings the correct diagnosis was suspected preoperatively. Two cases of upper oesophageal web in childhood are described. The importance of distending the upper oesophagus with barium for the demonstration of these lesions is stressed.
