Congestion Evaluation of Pedestrians in Metro Stations Based on Normal-Cloud Theory

Abstract: This study aims at evaluating the congestion level of pedestrians in metro stations. Twelve hours (4 h × three facilities) of video data were collected in the channel, stairway, and platform in a metro station in the city of Ningbo, China. The indicator of GPC (grade of pedestrian crowd) was proposed to quantify the congestion level of pedestrians. Four levels of congestion (level I, level II, level III, and level IV) were determined based on the GPC. A normal-cloud (NC) model was proposed and calibrated for t… Show more

“…Twelve hours of video data were collected in the channel, stairway and platform in a metro station in the city of Ningbo, China. As a proposition for the management of pedestrians in metro stations [25]. Peng emphasized the relationship between the layout of commercial centers and the layout of metro station centers, emphasized the smooth transfer of personnel between transportation modes and also emphasized the importance of metro commercial passageways [26].…”

“…For example, in the traffic safety evaluation, Abellán et al [43] use DTC to analyze the relationship between stop/go decision, red light violation, and traffic parameters. Some researchers [44,45] have used DTC methods to explore the relationship between the relevant traffic rules and accident severity. In this study, the SPSS software package is used for the classification tree analysis.…”

“…Some more results about this issue can also be found in the works. [8][9][10][11] Furthermore, some existing papers discussed the influences of those exits' positions and structures on pedestrian evacuation. For example, Dong et al 12 investigated the influences of the aisles on the evacuation process of students from a classroom.…”
