“…However, recently C. felis was isolated from a patient with non-C. trachomatis conjunctivitis and from one of the patient's cats (14). In addition, we also reported previously that 5.0% of small-animal clinic veterinarians were seropositive for C. felis (45).…”

“…C. psittaci was associated with chronic forms of follicular conjunctivitis and with ophthalmia neonatorum and was isolated from the nasal and conjunctival swabs of both humans and cats. 31,32 It was also shown that patients with ocular adnexal lymphoma have a higher prevalence of C. psittaci infection in both the tumor and the mononuclear cells in the peripheral blood, and that persistent C. psittaci infection may contribute to the development of these lymphomas, as supported by clinical responses to antibiotic therapy. 33 In the posterior segment, infection with C. pneumoniae has been associated with human choroidal neovascular membranes, suggesting that by inducing chronic inflammation and pro-angiogenic cytokines in the posterior segment of the eye, these species of Chlamydia may contribute to the pathogenesis of agerelated macular degeneration.…”

“…In cattery B, one cat harbored genotype 1, one cat had genotype 3, one cat had genotype 11, and one cat had both genotypes 3 and 12. In cattery C, two cats harbored genotype 3 and seven cats had genotype 15.…”

“…The risk of zoonotic transmission is presumably greater for immunocompromised individuals. C. felis infection has been associated with conjunctivitis and/or respiratory tract disease (4,15), community-acquired pneumonia (21), hepatosplenomegaly, glomerulonephritis, and endocarditis in humans (31).…”
