Consequences of the energy policy in member states of the European Union – the renewable energy sources targets

Abstract: The aim of the article is to discuss and assess the diversification of renewable energy sources consumption in European Union member states. The time scope covers 2005 and 2015. The data comes from Eurostat. The analysis was based on synthetic indicators-using a non-standard method. Synthetic indicators were assessed based on three simple features such as: the share of renewable energy in energy consumption in 2015, the difference between the share of renewable energy in energy consumption in 2015 and in 2005 … Show more

“…They concern mainly the development of renewable energy in the context of SD [67], the potential to use solar energy from photovoltaic systems, their efficiency and environmental impact [68,69], potential to use wind energy [70,71], hydropower [72], tidal energy [73], geothermal energy [74] and biomass energy [75]. Many publications are devoted to the economic efficiency of investments in renewable energy sources in the EU [5,[76][77][78], and the VG [79][80][81].…”

“…As reported by Jelena Stankevičien ė et al [44], "The complexity increases with increasing choices of alternatives and features, therefore MULTIMOORA is useful in selecting the best alternatives." The use of the MULTIMOORA method by researchers in the study of renewable energy problems is increasing (e.g., [42,43,79,80]). Our research is therefore in line with this research trend.…”

“…Renewable energy production is believed to provide a sustainable strategy for replacing fossil fuels, thereby mitigating climate change by continuing to meet the growing global demand for energy [25]. The production and consumption of renewable energy is currently one of the main pillars of the European Union's energy policy [26]. The EU's energy target for 2030 has increased to reach 42.5% RESs in the energy mix, with an ambitious target of 45% [27].…”
