Conservative management of Type II dens invaginatus with guided endodontic approach: A case series

Abstract: Dens invaginatus (DI) is one of the rare malformations of teeth which results from an infolding of the dental papilla during the development of teeth. This defect gives rise to a possible communication between the pulp and oral environment, thereby increasing the susceptibility to caries, pulpitis, and pulp necrosis. Thus, early detection and conservative management of this invaginatus is of utmost importance. The present case series describes a conservative endodontic treatment technique for the management of… Show more

“…Concerning other possible applications, starting from the premise that guided endodontics can be applied in difficult cases with calcifications, it is pertinent to think that it could also be used in cases of abnormal dental morphologies that make conventional endodontic treatments difficult. Although there are no studies in this regard, several authors such as Ali A et al [ 86 ], Mena Álvarez J et al [ 55 ], and Zubizarreta Macho A et al [ 87 ] have reported several cases in the literature where 3D splints were used to treat cases of dens invagintus and dens evaginatus with successful results.…”

“…In addition to the treatment of calcified teeth, further indications such as dens invaginatus therapy (Ali & Arslan, 2019 ; Ali et al, 2019 ; Mena‐Álvarez et al, 2017 ; Zubizarreta‐Macho et al, 2019 ), removal of glass fibre posts (Maia et al, 2021 ; Perez et al, 2021 ) or mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) from root canals (Ali & Arslan, 2021 ) have been considered.…”
