Consistency Inference Property of QIC in Selecting the True Working Correlation Structure for Generalized Estimating Equations

Abstract: The generalized estimating equations (GEE) is one of the statistical approaches for the analysis of longitudinal data with correlated response. A working correlation structure for the repeated measures of the outcome variable of a subject needs to be specified by this method and the GEE estimator for the regression parameter will be the most efficient if the working correlation matrix is correctly specified. Hence it is desirable to choose a working correlation matrix that is the closest to the underlying stru… Show more

“…The choice of this model is justified by the fact that it considers the intra-subject correlation, which, if not considered, leads to invalid statistical inferences. The intra-subject correlations are considered by the specification of a correlation structure, "A working correlation structure" 21 , allowing sample population-level results.…”

“…The empirical validation of these models was carried out using the global validity test (Wald Khi-deux test) at the 5% threshold and using the quasi-likelihood under the Independence model Criterion (QIC) with different correlation matrices. [21][22][23] After numerous simulations, we selected the GEE models with a "compound symmetry" correlation matrix with the lowest QIC values. [21][22][23] The Odds Ratio (OR) is used to interpret the results of analysis produced using Stata software.…”
