Constituents of Boesenbergia pandurata (syn. Kaempferia pandurata): Isolation, Crystal Structure and Synthesis of (±)-Boesenbergin A

Abstract: Partly racemized pinostrobin and pinocembrin, together with 2',6'-dihydroxy-4'-methoxychalcone, cardamonin and a new chalcone () boesenbergin A, have been isolated from Boesenbergia pandurata Schl. (syn. Kaempferia pandurata Roxb., Zingiberaceae). Spectroscopic studies and X-ray crystallographic analysis have established the structure ()-(E)-1-[7'-hydroxy-5'-methoxy-2'-methyl- 2'-(4''-methylpent-3''-enyl)-2'H-chromen-8'-yl]-3-phenylprop-2-enone for boesenbergin A. A simple synthesis of boesenbergin A has bee… Show more

“…Chemical structures were established using standard techniques of IR, UV, 1H-NMR and 13C-NMR, and mass spectroscopy which were compared with the spectroscopic data in the literature (Nilsson 1961 ;Hayashi et al 1969;Bohlmann et al 1977;Bohlmann & Abraham 1979;Cooksey et al 1982;Jaipetch et al 1982;Tanaka et al 1984;Burke & Nair 1986). 2,4,6'-trihydroxychalcone, 2,6'-dihydroxy-4'-methoxychalcone, and 1-(5-acetyl-2-hydroxyphenyl)-3-methyl-2-buten-1-one Air dried leaves and stems of O. leptophyllus (100 g) were extracted by steeping with 600 ml portions of dichloromethane/ methanol (1:3) over four successive days (Fig.…”
