Constituents of Caesalpinia pyramidalis

Abstract: Two new glycosyl phenylpropenoid acids, 4-O-beta-glucopyranosyloxy-(Z)-7-hydroxycinnamic acid (1) and 4-O-beta-glucopyranosyloxy-(Z)-8-hydroxycinnamic acid (2), besides lupeol and aghatisflavone, were isolated from the leaves of Caesalpinia pyramidalis.

“…Phytochemical investigations have demonstrated the presence of secondary metabolites, such as flavonoids, diterpenes, tannins and lignans [6][7][8][9][10]. Several biological activities have already been tested with this species, among which we can highlight the antimicrobial activity against Staphylocus aureus, Escherichia coli, Enterococcus faecalis, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Salmonella spp., S. Aureus e Pseudomonas aeruginosa, antioxidant, gastro protective, anti-inflammatory, antinociceptive and anthelmintic activity, which corroborates many of its traditional uses.…”

“…LP Queiroz is an arboreal species of the Fabaceae family, popularly known as family. Lignans, gallic acid, steroids, phenylpropanoid, and tannins, flavonoids and especially biflavonoids are isolated in the leaves and stem of P. pyramidalis (Mendes et al, 2000;Bahia et al, 2005;Bahia et al, 2010;Oliveira, 2010). Monteiro (2005) quantified the greater abundance of metabolites in the methanol extract from the bark of catingueira, where he obtained 29.60 and 24.72 mg for total phenol and tannins, respectively.…”

“…Phenylpropanoid glycoside acid, 4-Ob-glucopyranosyloxy-7-Zhydroxycinnamic acid and 4-Ob-glucopiranosiloxi Z-8-hydroxycinnamic acid were also isolated from the leaves. The chloroform extract gave the stem 4, 4'-dihydroxy-2'-methoxy-chalcone, (-) -Methyl gallate and syringaresinol (Table 2) (Mendes et al, 2000;Bahia et al, 2005;Borges-dos-Santos et al, 2012). The hexane phase of the root was the isolation of lupeol, acacetina, phenylpropanoid, and a mixture of sitosterol and stigmasterol.…”

“…In folk medicine, its flowers, seeds, leaves and bark of the stem are used for the treatment of catarrhal infections, diarrheas and dysentery, besides being endowed with antipyretic and diuretic properties (Mendes et al, 2000;Braga, 1960;Rêgo Júnior et al, 2011).…”

“…A large number of metabolites have been isolated from `catingueira`, such as: phenylpropanoids, lupeol, β-sitosterol, bioflavonoids (agastiflavone, amentoflavone, sequoiaflavone and podocarpusflavone), chalcone, kaempferol, apigenin, lignane, stigamasterol and methyl gallate (Mendes et al, 2000;Bahia et al, 2010;Novais et al, 2003). Crude ethyl acetate from the leaves and roots of C. pyramidalis Tull.…”
