Constituents of the essential oil ofPiper aduncum L. growing wild in the Amazon region

Abstract: The essential oils of eight samples of Piper aduncum L., collected at dierent localities of the Amazon region, were analysed by GC±MS. The major component identi®ed in all samples was dillapiole (31.5± 97.3%). Sample A, collected at Serra do Navio (AP), showed a yield of oil and dillapiole content of 3.3% and 31.5%, respectively; sample B, collected at MelgacË o (PA), 1.8% and 50.8%; sample C, collected at Ben®ca (PA), 1.6% and 56.3%; samples D and E, collected at Bele m (PA), 1.2% and 82.2%; 1.5% and 86.9%, … Show more

“…Besides the major components found here in the oil of P. aduncum, Maia et al (1998) and Fazolin et al (2007) also related other major components for the same plant species. Differences in oil components probably resulted from different environmental conditions for plant development (Simas, et al 2004).…”

“…The possible defense function for dillapiole is supported by the biological activities described for Piper aduncum L. leaves EOs, as antifungal and insecticide 40,41,42 . The EO of this species has also dillapiole as the major component 31 . Moreover, dillapiol isolated from Piper holtonii C. DC.…”

“…Essa espécie, com altos teores desse princípio ativo (MAIA et al, 1998), é abundante na Amazônia Ocidental e apresenta viabilidade de produção em escala comercial. P. aduncum ocorre em todo território brasileiro, porém, os quimiotipos bioprospectados na Amazônia Ocidental são os que apresentam teores de dilapiol mais elevados (MAIA et al, 1998). Walia et al, (2004) apontaram o dilapiol como o produto com maior possibilidade de suceder o PBO.…”
