Constitution of the Galactomannan From the Kernel of Green Palmyra Palm Nut (Borassus Flabellifer Linn.)

Abstract: The water-soluble polysaccharide extracted from the Icernel of green palmyra palm nut ( B o~a s s ?~s flabellifer Linn.) was shown to be composed of D-galactose and D-lnannose in the proportion of 1:2.4. Hydrolysis of the fully methylated galactomannan yielded 2,3,4,6-tetra-0-methyl-D-galactose, 2,3,6-tri-0-methyl-~-mannose, and 2,3-di-O-lnethyl-~-1mnose in the molar ratio of 1:1.4:0.95. Partial hydrolysis of the galactomannan afforded 4-0-8-D-mannopyranosyl-D-mannose, 6-O-ol-~-ga~actopyranosy~-~-111i~111lose,… Show more

“…It is great in amount and literature from the 1900s primarily explored the distribution and development of the B. flabellifer [2,11,12] . The focus on haustorium research in the 1900s was also aligned with its development, where the germination process was heavily investigated [13][14][15][16][17][18][19][20] .…”

“…The endosperm cells are converted into a jelly-like, semi-solid mass that accumulates around the haustorium after degradation [17] . This kind of germination is known as remote germination [14,16] , and it is noticeable in other kinds of palms as well [21] .…”
