Experimental investigations on self-compacting concrete (SCC) under uniaxial monotonic and cyclic compression taking into account the stochastic constitutive relationship were reported and conducted. By introducing a practical method on plasticity characterization into the fiber bundle-plastic chain model, a new constitutive model based on the statistic damage approach for describing the stochastic mechanical responses of SCC under uniaxial compression was proposed. The comparison between the experimental results and the predictions demonstrated that the proposed model was able to characterize the salient features for SCC under both uniaxial monotonic and cyclic compression. Furthermore, the stochastic evolution (SE) of SCC under uniaxial compression and a comparison between the SCC and normally vibrated concrete (NVC) in certain aspects were analyzed and discussed; it was concluded that the stochastic constitutive relationship of SCC under compression can be understood by a media process of transition from microscale to macroscale.

Experimental investigation on cement emulsified asphalt mortar (CA mortar) under uniaxial monotonic compression by taking into account the stochastic properties were investigated. An analytical constitutive model based on the statistic damage approach capable of mimicking the stochastic mechanical responses of CA mortar under uniaxial compression was proposed. The comparison between the experimental results and the predictions demonstrated that the proposed model was able to characterize the salient features for CA mortar under uniaxial monotonic compression. Furthermore, the compressive stochastic evolution (SE) of CA mortar tested in this work and comparative analyses among typical China Railway Track System-I (CRTS-I) type CA mortar and concrete in several aspects were examined and performed; it was revealed that the Lognormal distribution density function can well represent the damage probability density for CA mortar, and its stochastic constitutive relationship can be reflected by a media process of transition from microscale to macroscale.

Old mines or caverns may be used as reservoirs for fuel/gas storage or in the context of large scale energy storage. In the first case, oil or gas is stored on annual basis. In the second case pressure due to water or compressed air varies on a daily basis or even faster. In both cases a cyclic loading on the cavern's/mine's walls must be considered for the design. The complexity of rockwork geometries or coupling with water flow requires finite element modelling and then a suitable constitutive law for the rock behaviour modelling. This paper presents and validates the formulation of a new constitutive law able to represent the inherently cyclic behaviour of rocks at low confinement. The main features of the behaviour evidenced by experiments in the literature depict a progressive degradation and strain of the material with the number of cycles. A constitutive law based on a boundary surface concept is developed. It represents the brittle failure of the material as well as its progressive degradation. Kinematic hardening of the yield surface allows the modelling of cycles. Isotropic softening on the cohesion variable leads to the progressive degradation of the rock strength. A limit surface is introduced and has a lower opening than the bounding surface. This surface describes the peak strength of the material and allows the modelling of a brittle behaviour. In addition a fatigue limit is introduced such that no cohesion degradation occurs if the stress state lies inside this surface.
