Construct, content and face validity of the camera handling trainer (CHT): a new E-BLUS training task for 30° laparoscope navigation skills

Abstract: competent (p = 0.12) and expert (p = 0.24) participants. All participants agreed that "the CHT is a valid training tool" and that "the CHT should be part of the regular dry laboratory training sessions", assessing both face and content validity. Limitations include the need for assessment of predictive validity. Conclusions The CHT is a valid training tool for 30° laparoscope navigation and thus should be considered as one of the fundamental exercises during basic laparoscopic hands-on training sessions for ur… Show more

“…Laparoscopy's difficult LC is attributed to the increased workload when compared to open surgery as maintaining challenging physical positions increases stress, physical demand, and reduces performance [8][9][10]. Furthermore, errors made by human camera assistants (HCAs) due to inexperience, miscommunication, tremor, involuntary rotation of the camera's axis, erroneous movements, and fatigue contribute to an unsteady camera image which can also reduce surgical performance [5,9,[11][12][13][14][15][16][17].…”

“…The EUREP platform has allowed a successful era of E-BLUS and EST-S1 examinations [5,13] that can be a part of a trainee's portfolio and is now successfully conducted in numerous centres across the world. It seems that the EUREP journey has just begun, with new and more exciting courses and curricula on the horizon, such as the lower tract curriculum and advanced laparoscopic and stone treatment courses.…”
