Constructal Design Associated to Genetic Algorithm of Asymmetric V-Shaped Pathways

Abstract: This work relies on constructal design to perform the geometric optimization of the V-shaped pathways of highly conductive materials (inserts) that remove a constant heat generation rate from a body and deliver it to isothermal heat sinks. It is shown numerically that the global thermal resistance of the V-shaped pathway can be minimized by geometric optimization subject to total volume and V-shaped pathways material constraints. Constructal design and genetic algorithm (GA) optimization showed the emergence o… Show more

“…For the optimization, a binary, single-objective, elitist genetic algorithm (GA) was used, similar to previous work in the literature [28,29]. The algorithm creates a fixed number ( population) of geometries, which are generated randomly, called the first generation (set of individuals).…”

“…On the heat generating area problem in particular, analytical developments for simple I-shaped conductive strip morphologies have been obtained [54,55,56,57,58]. Besides I-shaped studies, various configurations have been analysed on the variation of morphologies of the conductive strip (+, H, X, Y, V, Fork shapes) [59,60,61,62,63,64,65] with thermal contact resistance (I,T shapes) [66,67], considering size effect on conductivity of the conductive strip and considering nonuniform heat generation in the area [68,69,70,71,72]. Some methods to obtain the shape of the conductive strip have also been investigated [73,74,75,76].…”

“…Firstly, Estrada et al [16] presented an optimization for the geometry of asymmetric V-shaped inserts for minimizing the peak temperature of a hot square body through the CL and GA. Their work resulted in some optimal shapes concerning the DOF. Avendaño et al [17] employed the GA, CL, and the evolutionary theory and proposed two approaches to cool a hot medium.…”
