Constructing A Multi-Microgrid with the Inclusion of Renewable Energy in Oman's Rural Power System

Abstract: This paper investigates the possibility of constructing multi-microgrids by interlinking the rural area systems in the Al Wusta governorate of the Sultanate of Oman, which are currently being supplied by diesel generators. It is proposed to enhance the rural system under study by switching off small diesel stations and replacing them with wind turbines. The microgrids formed in this way are then interlinked together to create multi-microgrids. The paper studies the interlinked multi-microgrids under different … Show more

“…The rate of power consumption around the globe is still increasing dramatically, yet the fossil fuels remain the main player to serve that energy demand even with their negative environmental effects. For these reasons, more researchers were motivated to seek new sources of energy that are clean, renewable and cost effective [1][2][3]. Wind energy is considered one of the most favourable renewable energies and active solution for environmental degradation for more years to come.…”

“…The voltage and frequency of the microgrid are determined. When the microgrid is disconnected from the mains and operates in island mode, the control strategy must be changed to provide a reference for frequency and voltage [12]. A droop control scheme is generally used by paralleling multiple inverters [13] in which the voltage and frequency of each inverter are adjusted in order to control the active and reactive power.…”
