Construction of 2D/2D Ni2P/CdS heterojunctions with significantly enhanced photocatalytic H2 evolution performance

Abstract: 2D/2D Ni2P/CdS heterojunctions are prepared by combining liquid exfoliation of CdS with a post-annealing procedure and employed as highly efficient photocatalysts for H2 evolution.

“…The E g of CdS, NiS, MoS 2 , and NiP x are 2.42, 0.4, 1.86, and 0.97 eV obtained from DRS spectrum (Figures S2, S9 and S10) and literature reports. [33][34][35] Based on the above analysis (listed in Table 1), the corresponding VB positions of CdS, NiS, MoS 2 and NiP x samples are at about 1.96 eV, 0.66, 1.70 V, and 0.62 eV, respectively.…”

“…The vibration modes of the Cu 3 P [34] were also apparently detected from the NF-CNP (Figure S5c, Supporting Information) and NF-CNNOP (Figure S5b, Supporting Information) samples. However, the Raman peaks of Ni 2 P cannot be detected, [35,36] which were perpetual to Ni 2 P. Noticeably, the Raman vibration of NiO cannot be observed in the Raman spectrum of NF-CNNOP sample but its intensity significantly decreases, suggesting the partial phosphidation of the ternary hybrid sample. [37,38] The cross-sectional morphological studies on the pristine NF and as-prepared samples are presented in Figure 1c-f to have detailed understanding of the surface morphological reaction.…”

“…But the high recombination rate of photogenerated e − –h + pairs and poor stability restricted the practical application of CdS [65,66] . To address these problems, loading TMPs as co‐catalysts has been investigated by many researchers [35,36,67] …”

“…In addition, the low cost and easy access also make TMPs outstanding co-catalysts. [58] TMPs, including Ni 2 P, WP, FeP, Co 2 P, and others, are often employed in combination with metal sulfides, [35,59] metal oxides, [39,60] g-C 3 N 4 , [61,62] and other photocatalytic materials to achieve better photocatalytic effect.…”
