“…The UV spectrum assay provided the bandgap of CeO 2 NPs as 2.65 eV. Spectroscopic photoluminescence assay provided evidence of defect states on a large scale within the O 2 valency band [ 53 ] and defects responsible for quick oxygen transportation [ 55 ]. The FTIR assay proves that the phytochemicals and flavonoids occur in the leaves serve as the reducing and stabilizing factor during NPs synthesis and this could further enhance its antimicrobial ability [ 56 ].…”

“…43 One group of two peaks at 901 eV corresponds to the 3d 3/2 spin orbital and another group of two peaks at 882 eV corresponds to the 3d e spin orbital. 43,44 These peaks are asymmetric, which is attributed to the mixture of Ce 3+ and Ce 4+ in the CeO 2 structure. Fig.…”

“…In case of (Ti-Ce) system two significant phenomena occur: on CeO 2 oxide surface some oxygen vacancies are formed through interaction with oxygen species from gas/liquid phase and a redox couple Ce 3+ /Ce 4+ (Figure 14D) is formed [91,92]. Furthermore, Ce 3+ is able to generate radicalic species in a similar manner with electrons from the conductive band (Equations ( 21) and ( 22)); a transfer of electrons from CeO 2 also occursconduction band to TiO 2 conduction band since bandgap energy of CeO 2 is situated at more negative values (−0.37 eV) than those of TiO 2 (−0.24 eV) while holes migrate in opposite directions (Equations ( 23) and ( 24)) [92]. Hence, (Ti-Ce-Sn) system apart from a slower recombination of charges may be subject to electron agglomeration in SnO 2 conduction band and of holes in CeO 2 valence band.…”
